Over-Fertilization

A total of $31.7 billion was spent on fertilizer in 2023-one of the largest farming expenses to date. Over half of all fertilizer used is runoff, leading to huge environmental impacts like algal bloom.

Over-Irrigation

70% of all the world's freshwater is used in agriculture, but 40% of it is wasted. This wasted water is why 24% of fields face water-driven erosion, and deepens the $9 billion annual cost of droughts.

Excessive Pesticide Use

70 million pounds of pesticides are wasted each year, causing ground water contamination and biological resistance. This leads to harmful pesticide resistant weeds and "Superbugs".
